Moms & Dads Share Same Fears

If you’re a first-time mom, your partner is just as likely concerned as you are about your ability to have a healthy birth, a good recovery and to begin effectively parenting. These fears are quite common among all parents, especially with a first pregnancy, according to research in the journal, Nursing Reports.

Top ranking parenting fears include:

  • Whether mom or their partner would be a good parent
  • How to care for a new baby
  • If mom could successfully nurse her newborn

Financial issues rounded out common new parenting fears, including whether there would be enough money to raise a newborn, resume careers and have adequate and safe housing, as well as family health, personal well-being, relationship/support with their partner and the demands of infant care. The good news, perhaps, is that the intensity of the concerns related to returning to work and overall family health is from the third month to the sixth month after giving birth.
