Advertising Policies
Association of Women’s Health, Obstetric & Neonatal Nurses (AWHONN) and Maitland Warne policies for advertising on Healthy Mom&Baby™ channels, including but not limited to the magazine, website, newsletter, and social media.
- Compliance: All adverts must comply with general advertising standards as set out by the Federal Trade Commission, such as your advertisement must be truthful, cannot be deceptive or unfair, and must be evidence-based.
- Mandatory labelling: Where an advert is not clearly identifiable as an advert, due to design or amount of text, the advert must be clearly marked as such by putting “ADVERTISEMENT” in a clear font at the top of the page.
- No endorsement, implied or otherwise: AWHONN disclaims any and all explicit or implied endorsement by AWHONN or Maitland Warne related to the advertising and promotional activities within Healthy Mom&Baby, and its channels.
- No relationship or implied relationship: Advertising and/or website or social media statements promoting an implied relationship beyond advertising in an AWHONN publication are not acceptable. Advertisements may not state or suggest AWHONN’s approval or promotion of the product(s) or service(s) accepted for advertising in Healthy Mom&Baby. Advertisers may not post such statements on social media or on their company website.
- No conflict with AWHONN policies: Acceptable potential advertising shall respect and be sensitive to the reputation of AWHONN, be of a responsible nature and shall not conflict with any published position statements and policies of AWHONN.
- Compliance with AAP Safety Guidelines: Products for children must comply with AAP safety guidelines, and images should also be in keeping with these policies, for example an image of a baby asleep should be in keeping with the AAP’s Safe Sleep guidelines.
- No open warning letter or recall from regulatory agencies: Advertisements for products under restrictive action, including a Warning Letter or Recall Letter from the FDA or any other regulatory review body, are not eligible for advertising consideration.
- No false or implied claims of benefit: Acceptable potential advertising may not contain false or implied false claims or omit facts relevant or deemed essential to individual safety. Advertisements may not be deceptive or intentionally misleading.
- Disclaimers: Advertisers who make scientific claims must place a disclaimer leading to wide, peer-reviewed studies and resources.
- FDA disclaimer for non-approved supplements and devices: Any supplement or device that doesn’t require FDA approval (e.g., herbs, homeopathic preparations, support devices) but that makes a therapeutic or beneficial statement must include the FDA disclaimer that this product hasn’t been evaluated by the FDA.
- Advertisement standards: Advertisements must not be offensive. They must be free of bias or discrimination.
Process: Every advert which appears within Healthy Mom&Baby™ channels must go through an approval process with AWHONN before it can go live. After Maitland Warne process your materials to ensure it meets our technical specifications, the materials will be submitted to AWHONN to review. Maitland Warne will report back to you if any edits to your materials are required.
Sole discretion: AWHONN, at its sole discretion shall determine whether an advertiser is eligible to advertise on its channels, which of its products and services may accept advertising, as well as how advertising is displayed and distributed in such products and services.
Case by case basis: This policy is not exhaustive; AWHONN reserves the right to provide advertisers an opportunity to revise ads that may fall outside the bounds of these policies on a case by case basis, with the rationale as to why the advertising may not meet AWHONN’s advertising policies.
An approval on your materials does not imply any endorsement by AWHONN of your product.
